GFC stands for Growth Factor Concentrate, a scalp therapy made from your own blood. A small sample is spun
in a centrifuge to separate out the fraction rich in platelet derived growth factors, PDGF, VEGF and EGF
among them, that signal dormant follicles to switch back on.
The confusion with PRP is fair since both start from the same blood draw. PRP retains platelets along with
clotting proteins, while GFC is filtered further so only the concentrated signalling proteins remain, which
is why patients who have tried both often find GFC injections easier to sit through.
A nurse withdraws approximately the same amount of blood as a standard laboratory test, and the sample is
spun in a centrifuge for ten to fifteen minutes to separate the contents.
The resulting concentrate is then drawn into fine needles and injected into the dermis of the scalp in
several places a few millimeters apart, extending over the desired area of the crown, frontals, or a
receding temple region. The procedure itself takes about forty-five minutes, and we advise patients to keep
the injection site clean until morning.
Most patients are likely to need four to six treatments, about three to four weeks apart, with results
typically evident after the second or third session, although everyone’s response curves vary, and we
can’t give a precise estimate during the introductory consultation.
Direct injection is what most clinics rely on, placing the concentrate at closely spaced points across the affected area, sometimes called the nappage method for the even coverage it gives. Some dermatologists pair this with microneedling first, rolling a fine gauge derma roller across the scalp to open tiny channels before injecting. Whether that step is worth adding depends on scalp thickness and patient tolerance, decided case by case.
The first thing patients usually report is less hair on the pillow, not new growth, and that order is
normal. Shedding slows before regrowth becomes visible, so do not read the first few weeks as the
treatment not working.
Since the injected material comes from your own body, allergic reactions are essentially a non issue,
and there is no recovery time built in, most people are back at their desk the same afternoon with
maybe a tender scalp for a day.
GFC works best when follicles are weakened but still alive, describing most early and moderate thinning cases we see. Postpartum shedding, stress triggered hair fall, and early pattern thinning in both men and women tend to respond reasonably well.
You have to know how many treatments your particular scalp needs before you can set a price, since it
varies depending on the size of the region being treated. As a guideline, one GFC hair treatment in Mysore
costs about INR 3,000 to 6,000 per session, with larger areas naturally costing more.
Most clinics give you a ballpark figure based on your individual requirements for a package of four to six
treatments. However, if a clinic can’t provide you with specific figures, take it as a red flag.

Give it six to eight weeks before expecting anything visible, and even then it will likely be reduced
shedding rather than new hair you can point to in a photo. Fresh growth along the thinning patches shows up
more reliably around the three to four month mark.
Judge the full outcome only after the entire course is done. Hair biology moves slowly on its own schedule,
so treat any promise of dramatic thickness within days with scepticism, no legitimate clinic can shortcut a
biological process.
Because GFC uses the patient’s own blood, the danger is minimal if the clinic follows standard hygiene
practices. The most common side effects are slight discomfort and bruising around the injection site and a
dull headache that disappears the same day.
It is entirely normal to experience some temporary bruising and swelling around the temporal region if the
treatment was performed there, since the skin is thin, but it should disappear in about two or three days.
Always ask whether a new disposable kit is used for each client.
We do not start injecting on the first visit. Your scalp gets examined under good lighting, and we walk you
through what your hair loss pattern actually looks like before recommending GFC or anything else.
Every session runs with a fresh single use kit, and we check back in after every second sitting to see
whether the plan needs adjusting, rather than running a fixed package regardless of how you respond. The
clinic sits in Jayalakshmipuram, an easy drive from most parts of Mysuru.
Both start from the same blood draw, but the processing splits them apart. PRP keeps platelets and clotting
factors in the mix, while GFC strips that back to just the growth signalling proteins, leaving a thinner
fluid that tends to sting less going in.
Published outcomes between the two run fairly close for early stage thinning, so the choice often comes
down to comfort and what your dermatologist observes on examination.
Notice increased strands in the drain, a part line wider than it used to be, or a ponytail that feels
thinner in your hand, that is the window to act, not once bald patches have already formed. Early
intervention consistently gives any hair therapy a better shot.
It is also a reasonable route to try before a hair transplant enters the conversation, particularly if
topical minoxidil alone has stalled.
If your hair has been thinning quietly and you would rather hear an honest assessment than a sales pitch, book a scalp consultation with our dermatologists at Umbrella Aesthetics. We will look at what is happening on your scalp and tell you plainly whether GFC treatment is the right next step.
