Facial hair removal treatment is an effective way of getting rid of unwanted hair on your face by using a
laser that emits a specific wavelength of light that passes through the top layer of your skin and into the
melanin, or pigment, in every hair. The light beam then heats up the melanin situated at the hair follicle,
which destroys the follicle’s ability to make hair grow.
Facial skin plays by different rules though. Thinner, closer to surface blood vessels, more reactive.
Settings that work fine on the legs usually need dialing back before they go anywhere near the upper lip or
chin.
A handheld laser passes over the area in short pulses, each one aimed at follicles just under the skin.
Most patients describe an upper lip or chin session as a quick series of warm snaps, done in a few minutes
since the area is so small.
Facial hair also grows faster than people expect, in shorter cycles than body hair. That is why sessions
here sit closer together, roughly every three to four weeks, instead of the longer gaps used on legs or the
back.
Upper lip hair removal comes up more than any other facial request, followed by chin and jawline hair.
Sideburns, cheeks and stray hairs along the hairline show up fairly often too, particularly with patients
managing hormonal hair growth.
And men are not some rare exception here, they make up a real share of our facial hair patients. Most come
in for cheek line, neckline or beard edge cleanup rather than removing a beard entirely, and a few want
fuller facial hair reduction for other reasons.
Not dealing with regrowth every few days, that is the obvious one. Threading and waxing on the face,
especially the upper lip, tend to irritate skin fast, redness, small bumps, sometimes ingrown hairs that
get worse each round. Laser mostly sidesteps that.
Skin tone tends to even out and look calmer within a few sessions too, since you are not repeatedly
plucking or waxing sensitive facial skin.
This works for anyone, men or women, dealing with dark, coarse facial hair they are tired of managing week to week. Very fine, light coloured hair, commonly known as peach fuzz, will not respond as reliably due to the lack of pigment for the laser to target.
Pricing runs lower per session than body areas usually, mainly because the zones, upper lip and chin
especially, are smaller. Expect a modest price for a small area, a bit more for a full face including
sideburns and jawline.
Package pricing across a full course, typically six to eight sessions, tends to work out cheaper than
paying per visit. Ask your clinic to break this down before your first session so nothing surprises you
later.

Facial hair is slightly different to body hair, sessions are closer together, but results tend to build up
gradually rather than overnight. Reduced density is generally noticeable at the third or fourth session,
primarily around the upper lip.
A full course generally means six to eight sessions before the fullest reduction shows, with occasional
touch ups later if hormonal hair growth is part of the picture. Judge the real outcome once the course
wraps up, not after one or two visits.
A 2024 study in the Journal of Cutaneous and Aesthetic Surgery followed seventy three women with facial
hirsutism through six diode laser sessions and found a statistically significant drop in hair count. Mild
pain, some redness and light swelling around the follicle showed up as the most common reactions, nothing
beyond that.
An earlier 2008 study on fifty nine Indian women with facial hair, treated with an Nd:YAG laser across six
sessions, reported safe and effective hair reduction with no permanent side effects, results improving
steadily with each session. Facial skin runs more sensitive than most body areas, so a patch test and
slightly conservative energy settings are standard practice here.
Facial treatments get handled with more caution here, simply because the skin is thinner and sits closer to
the eyes. Every session starts with an actual look at your hair growth pattern and skin reaction, not a
fixed setting applied to whoever walks in that day.
Sessions run under our dermatology team throughout, and we check progress every couple of sittings to
adjust the plan if it needs adjusting. We are in Jayalakshmipuram, an easy drive from most parts of Mysuru.
Threading and waxing pull hair out at the root and last a couple of weeks before regrowth starts again, same
coarse hair, every time, often with some irritation along the way. Laser damages the follicle instead, so
regrowth thins and slows with every session.
Threading still earns its place for quick shaping between laser sessions, especially early on. Most
patients drop it altogether once regrowth gets sparse enough that the appointment is not really worth it
anymore.
It makes perfect sense when upper lip, chin, or jaw hair require trimming on a daily basis rather than a
monthly or biweekly basis, or when you experience irritation after threading. It also makes sense to
consider facial hair removal to manage androgen-related hair growth, since regular treatments prevent
further growth more efficiently than those undergone sporadically.
Wedding or big event coming up. Start a few months ahead, results need time to show.
